How I Run 2 Businesses While Being a Present Dad

Tried something different last week.

I brought my Osmo Pocket 3 out and filmed a “day in my life” vlog.

It wasn’t some polished, cinematic B-roll reel.

Just real moments of me running two businesses…

Working with clients, and still being present for my kids.

It felt a bit troublesome filming the behind-the-scenes part.

I don’t know how those creators do it.

You know the ones where they wake up and stretch beautifully in bed…

With perfect lighting and makeup done lol.

I always felt those were super scripted.

I can’t bring myself to do that.

Mine looked a little different.

You can watch the video here.

Here’s how the day actually went:

Sent my kids to school. (My every morning. Present dad duties.)

Drove straight to meet a real estate client to film her video ad.

We did the hook outdoors, and the full script… inside her car.

(Yes, the car became our mini studio.)

Then I went to meet my TravelClef team over lunch.

If you’re new here, TravelClef is my music-based team bonding company

We also run an e-comm store selling our own foldable pianos, guitars, cajons, etc.

After lunch, jumped on a consult call with a gym client.

Been working together for over a year. He’s opening a second outlet.

That day, we looked at his ad performance and reworked his landing page to make the booking flow tighter.

Last stop of the day: headed to another long-term client’s home.

Filmed his YouTube content.

He’s one of the top performers in his agency.

Wrapped up, picked my kids, and headed to town for Friday dinner with the fam.

There’s this guy friend who often ask me:

“Bro, how do you manage to juggle all that?”

Here’s my real answer…

And I’m not trying to sound motivational or guru-ish:

It all comes down to 2 things:

Leverage and systems.

Let’s unpack the first one.

LEVERAGE

If you’re trying to scale a business, grow without burnout, or free up your time…

You need to understand and apply leverage.

There are 2 types of leverage I use every single day:

1. Permission-Based Leverage (People)

Most entrepreneurs fall into the trap of thinking they must do everything themselves.

But real growth comes when you build a support system that executes even when you’re not around.

In my businesses, I rely heavily on people to make things work:

At TravelClef, we have trained freelance instructors who can run workshops independently.

When a company books a session, I’m not the one holding the guitar or teaching – the team handles it.

For content, I have editors who help with client videos and my personal videos.

I have someone handling backend campaign workflows, someone helping push out emails, etc.

All of them operate using SOPs and systems we’ve built.

I don’t micromanage. I trust the process.

This is permission-based leverage — because it still needs coordination, delegation, and buy-in.

But when set up well, it multiplies your time like crazy.

2 . Permissionless Leverage (Media)

Now this is the type of leverage I love.

You see this email you’re reading?

It could reach hundreds, or thousands.

And I didn’t have to show up in person to deliver it.

That’s the power of permissionless leverage.

Content, emails, ads…

They work for you 24/7, even while you sleep.

Just last week, I ran a 5-day email campaign for our Foldable Piano.

No ads.

Just emails to our list.

Total revenue?

$3K+ in 5 days.

From a pre-written sequence I scheduled in advance.

(Actually, written by ChatGPT and scheduled by my team)

No shopfront.

No sales calls.

This is why I love email marketing and content.

It doesn’t ask for permission.

It scales without effort.

This is why I believe every founder should build a media engine…

Even if it’s just a weekly email or 2 videos a month.

Because one solid piece of content can bring in leads for weeks.

And the best part?

You only create it once.

So that’s leverage.

People to execute.

Media to scale.

Next …

SYSTEMS

Systems are what hold all of this together.

Without systems, leverage breaks down.

Because you’ll keep needing to step in and “save” the business.

I’ve spent years building SOPs, templates, workflows.

These are some of the systems that help me run both businesses:

  • WhatsApp automations that reply to leads immediately (yes, even at midnight)
  • Email sequences that nurture new sign-ups and upsell them to the next offer
  • A content calendar mapped out weekly — we batch shoot, repurpose, distribute
  • Templates for running workshops so my team doesn’t need to ask me “what’s next”
  • Zapier and backend automations that cut down 3 steps into 1

It’s boring work.

But it’s what frees up my calendar.

The goal isn’t to outsource your business and disappear.

It’s to design a business that doesn’t need you in every meeting, every task, every post.

That way, I get to:

  • Be home when my kids nap
  • Film videos with clients I enjoy working with
  • Still have energy to go out for Friday night sushi

Not because I hustle harder than anyone else.

But because I built systems that let me show up for the things that matter.

If you’re in a phase where your business feels heavy…

Or you’re stuck doing everything alone…

Start thinking about leverage.

Start documenting your systems.

They’ll give you back more time than you can imagine.
